What is Digital Scrapbooking?

Digital Scrapbooking is a fun and easy way to create digital layouts on your computer. Using an image-editing program such as Adobe® Photoshop® Elements or CS, ArcSoft Scrapbook, Collage Creator or Microsoft Digital Image Pro, you can create scrapbook pages similar to the way you would with physical paper and glue. You can use these graphic programs to create layouts (in many forms) that look just as good as (or better) than paper layouts. Shutterfly offers a high quality, easy and affordable way to print out your digital layouts in various formats, such as digital scrapbooks, cards, scrapbook pages and calendars. You can also use Shutterfly photo prints to insert into your traditional paper scrapbook albums.

What is full bleed?

This is a term used when an image extends completely to all four edges of the finished sheet. With full bleed, one extends the image beyond the trim edge of a sheet to ensure that there is no white space at the edge after the printed page is trimmed to the final size.

What adjustments do I need to make for trimming/binding?

When designing your scrapbook pages, we highly recommend that you:

• follow our how tos and specifications closely – we provide detailed step by steps and measurements for
all our layouts to give you complete creative control of your project.
• download our templates – the templates will provide you guidelines that represent the bleed, trim, and safety areas.

make sure that your background extends all the way to the edges of your document and that your critical design elements stay inside the template guidelines (safety area)

What is jpeg?

Jpeg is a common image format. This is a compression technique used for saving images and photographs and is widely used on the World Wide Web. Most digital camera pictures are jpeg files.

What is VividPics? How do I turn it off?

VividPics® is a piece of unique Shutterfly software that makes the colors and contrast in a digital picture vibrant, bright and sharp. Since this software may adjust the colors and contrasts in a completed design layout, for best results, we recommend that you turn it off when creating a Digital Scrapbook. Instructions on how to turn off this feature are illustrated below (these instructions are also included in the how to sections):

What is Easy Crop? How do I turn it off?

Easy Crop is a piece of unique Shutterfly software that auto-crops a digital picture to ensure that the selected crop area can be printed on any print size chosen. Since this software may adjust the pictures within a completed design layout, for best results, we recommend that you turn it off to use our digital layout print solution. Instructions on how to turn off this feature are illustrated below (these instructions are also included in the how to sections):

My hard drive crashed and I need to get copies of the photos and layouts that I have uploaded to Shutterfly. How do I do that?

Shutterfly never deletes a photo and with our Archival DVD product, you can safeguard up to 1,000 high-resolution images (per CD) in case of loss, or just to stay organized.

We offer digital scrapbook printing in the following Photo Book sizes: 12×12, 8×11, 8×8, 7×9, and 5×7.

What is the maximum number of pages that I can have in a photo book?

The maximum number of pages in a photo book is 101.

Click "Add Pages" in the upper right of your screen to add additional pages to your photo book.

Can I customize the covers on all the books?

All photo books sizes feature personalized photo covers. You can also choose from a range of cover types depending on the book size. Please use the correct specs based on cover size and cover type (e.g., 8x8 hard cover vs. 8x8 soft cover).

The pages in a photo book are printed on both sides of the sheet.

The CHANGE book size feature does not work with digital scrapbook layouts.

Our cards preview is a low resolution image in order to save download time for the user - the final image will print as a high resolution and will be much sharper. However, please also note that further exploration is necessary when you receive a warning symbol next to any of your images or layouts.

Although I selected the layout where the image filled the whole page, the preview shows a white border around each image on my calendar. How do I get rid of it?

To create a calendar where the images go right to the edges of the pages, choose "Wall Calendars" when you first start. Ignore the Style selections on the next page and continue to the Edit screen. Then, choose the third "1 picture" layout where the picture fills the entire page.
